Withholding information because you feel it may cause someone else pain is not the same as perpetuating a lie as if it were the absolute truth. I do not always share everything about myself with others, but I am far from delusional about the truth of who I am. But, were I to go around telling everyone I am someone other than who I really am, then go so far as to produce seemingly viable proof supporting the fallacy, then I am creating an illusion. Those that choose to believe in my illusion instead of divining the truth for them selves are delusional.

I however, choose to follow a truthful path of existence. Whether it is easy or not. But, to be honest, I find truth a thousand times easier than living a lie only to have everything crumble down around me when I find out it is all just an illusion.

The 'which is better' comparison between the truth and illusion/delusion can also be tied directly into many lies people tell. People keep things secret so as to avoid hurting smoeone else, for example. It is hard to argue FOR lying and delusion as such, but it can also be difficult to believe the truth would actually be better in many situations.

Tough call really; I personally tend to pursue truth and think it's the way to go for the most part, though sometimes I wonder if I might be happier without it ;)
