I often wonder how other people see things. And, knowing that these events have made as deep an impression on the rest of the country as they have on me is edifying to say the very least. I remember things like presidential assassination attempts, the crash of the space shuttle, and the deaths of hundreds in Waco, Texas within my lifetime. Each event changed me forever, but the events of 9/11 had what I would say are the most profound effects on me by far. For the first time in my life I actually felt “fear”. Not fear for myself, but for my loved ones. I suddenly felt very small, yet filled with a raw primal rage, and an abysmal sadness that seemed as big as the universe itself. But, despite whatever fears may have been born of these tragic events, I am ever grateful that this is my home.
