The Reason for the Season

I grew up in a Christian sect that taught that holidays such as Christmas and Easter are in fact un-biblical, and were annexed by “mainstream” Christianity hundreds of years after the supposed time of Christ. I find it ironic that that same sect has thrown in the towel, now teaching that there are proper Christian interpretations of these days. The fact is, they had it right the first time— Christmas and Easter are pagan holidays, dressed up with a thin veneer of Christianity. And (if I wanted to) I’m sure I could come up with a Christian interpretation of microwave pizza.

So, enjoy the lights, shopping, gifting, baskets, egg-laying bunnies, marshmallow peeps… and most importantly family time— but don’t prattle on to me about how Jesus figures into it: you’re only kidding yourself.
