NPR: Atheist Brigade Takes Arguments to the Tolerant
NPR covers the rise of the New Atheists: hard-headed, boorish, and relentlessly logical— targeting the tolerant with reason and a healthy dose of ridicule.
“[T]wenty percent of all recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage. There is an obvious truth here that cries out for acknowledgment: if God exists, He is the most prolific abortionist of all.” — Sam Harris, Letter to a Christian Nation
“Those who literally wish to base their morality on the Bible have either not read it or have not understood it.” — Richard Dawkins
“Good evening, godless sodomites.”— Stephen Colbert at the Emmys. [Watch] (Colbert is in fact a progressive Catholic, but his heart is in the right place.)

Ha!!! Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are both an absolute riot. I really enjoyed that. And, since I started off by commented on the last part of this posting’s content, I suppose I will address my comments in reverse order in the interest of continuity.
Mr Dawkins has hit upon the truth wholly and completely. Many Christians have never actually read the entire Bible and aren’t likely too. Those that actually have obviously are having issues with deriving any sort of clear or level headed concept of the work. It is clearly a work of fiction written in an allegorical style. How many people live and breath their lives based on fantasy? The answer is actually - an alarmingly high number of people do. In fact everyone that believes in God is living their lives based on a fantasy.
As for Mr. Sam Harris, his statement of the raw and undeniable facts is what gives anyone with a logical bone in their body hope that future generations at the very least will not be afraid to embrace rational thought and decision making processes based on facts and not superstitions.
