Ministry
I have declared previously 2007 is the Year of the Inspired Atheist. So, around my birthday I felt inspired to take the step of becoming an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church. The church has a single creed: “Do only that which is good,” and does not presume to stand between an individual and their metaphysics. Aside from conferring the nice ability to officiate at weddings, funerals and such, for me it is also symbolic of my continuing commitment to one of the best ideas that rubbed off on me from my Christian upbringing: that we should serve each other.

Since the ULC has been ordaining folks at no charge (although they do accept donations) since the 1950s, there are around 20 million ordained ULC ministers. Nonetheless, I still feel like I’m in some rather interesting company.
