Baby Bible Basher, All Grown Up
In my previous post, I linked to the BBC documentary Baby Bible Bashers. Today on YouTube I ran across a stunning, 109-part documentary series on Faith Healing and Televangelism by Paul Harrison. Two of his segments discuss Marjoe Gortner, a boy raised as an evangelist from three years old. As an adult in 1972, Marjoe made one final tent revival tour, but this time with a camera crew and the secret motivation to expose himself as a charlatan, along with the entire evangelical/charismatic revival racket. The resulting film Marjoe won the 1972 Academy Award for Best Documentary.
