philli[p,

Looks like your keyoboard is smarter than youare from where I sit. I think perhaps you should be careful pitching stones out of that glass house you are sitting in.

It's also worth noting, that name calling is an activity that most people left behind them in grade school.

Katie,
"i am also reading josh mcdowell’s book more than a carpenter — for balance sake."

From a creationist standpoint I found books from this website:
http://www.reasons.org/ to be more successful at connecting science/reason and Biblical faith. Josh McDowell's "More than a Carpenter" is a bit elementary compared to Dawkins.

You might check to see if your library system participates in extra-library loaning. Sometimes they can borrow books from other cities and counties.

P.S. - Not so strange if you think about it. I mean honestly book-burnings aren't that far in the deep south's past.

Katie,

I often have a hard time finding books written by atheists here too. But, I do make use of the interlibrary loan system at my local library. Not sure if your libraries support internet resources for their users, but if they do, often you can make the interlibrary loan requests online and have them sent to the branch of your choice. Then they'll notify you when it's there to pickup.

I know how difficult it can be to make ends meet, so the library is one of my primary reading resources outside of the internet.

Katie,

Even if you can't get Barker's book from your library, I still strongly recommend you get your hands on it. You can get it from Amazon here: Losing Faith in Faith

does anyone check this site anymore? if so, i was wondering if charles templeton's farewell to god book is any good?? Robert, i was going to get dan barker's book like you suggested, but as luck would have it, my library doesn't carry ANY of dan barker's books. bible belt.. sheesh! i did reserve a copy of richard dawkins the god delusion, though. thought i'd see if templeton's book is worth a look. also, for the record, i am also reading josh mcdowell's book more than a carpenter -- for balance sake.

Hope everything is all worked out with our misunderstanding.

Thank you so much, Robert, Michelle, and Jon for taking the time to talk with me about this.

jon, i am continuing our conversation from the RW site on here.

my last post:
I have never been under the delusion that the apostles/disciples had a 100% clear understanding of the information they were “inspired” to write down. Just because they didn’t understand does not mean that they wrote down a single word in error under the power of the Spirit. From where I sit, I think you are giving the writers too much credit, which is understandable considering you don’t believe in God.

Also, does Hebrews 6 and 10 ever get to you when you try to sleep at night? And I am asking sencerely. Try as I may, I can’t understand how you got where you are. I don’t think I could ever get over the fear of possibly being wrong and the ultimate consequences for that.

So how do you like Dallas? We are actually moving to TX at some point in our 5 year business model. I’ve never been there — only here in the deluded old bible belt all my life. : )
