YouTuber potholer54 has finished his excellent “Made Easy” series (written about previously here) and embarked on a meticulous (and hilarious) debunking of creationist bullshit in his new channel potholer54debunks. I’ll be linking to each chapter here as potholer54 posts it.

What is this weird food fetish creationists have? The following are actual creationist videos that attempt to argue for the existence of God from food.

Argument from Banana

• The modern banana was created by selective breeding and can no longer even reproduce without human help.

• Coconuts are Satanic.

Argument from Peanut Butter

• Proposing that the theory of evolution predicts that new life may spontaneously arise in peanut butter shows an utter lack of understanding of evolution …and all science, for that matter.

Argument from TitCitrus

• Apophenia is a common and well-understood psychological phenomenon.

• Odd how they start by saying that “whole foods” resemble bodily organs, and then their first example is sliced carrots. Hmm… whole carrots look like…

• Neither bones nor celery are 23% sodium.

• Funny how they mention “mammary glands” but don’t say what they think citrus does to them… perhaps I should lay off the oranges.

Argument from Pickle

Update! July 20, 2008

• OK, so this isn’t so much an argument as it is a metaphor, but it is a hilarious misappropriation of a classic science classroom demonstration.

• I love how his pickle only lights up on one end— I’ll leave you to ponder which end this would represent in real, live Christians, many of whom clearly have a bad case of pickle envy.

• Come on down! The Host Barn is serving their signature sandwiches— now with an electrocuted pickle on the side! Mmm… snackreligious.

• ”The pickle that burns twice as bright, burns only half as long.”

YouTuber DonExodus2 is a Christian, and also a biology student who forcefully argues against the ignorance of creationists. In these two videos, he offers four irrefutable proofs of the theory of evolution. (And yes, he acknowledges that “proof” is a mathematical term that, while not applicable to scientific theories, nonetheless carries the vernacular meaning he intends.)

As it is a common theme to attack the person and not the argument I thought I would post a list of my degrees in order to dissuade such an attack.

High School Diploma
Associates Degree Chemistry
Associates Degree Physics (Astro-physics)
Bachelors Degree Botany
Ph.D. Molecular Neuroscience

So why do I bother? No one can ever force someone to change their mind, no matter how much data you throw at them. No new fossil or DNA sequence will convince someone who is willing to deny the millions that already have been discovered. And why does it matter if people deny evolution? Who really cares?

I bother because science has given us all of the technology we enjoy today. Science, through logic and reason, has lifted us out of the dark ages, and I personally choose not to return to that time. I want to raise my children (when I eventually have some) in a country that values free thought and intelligence. If you deny evolution then you must deny all of science including logic and reason. If you don’t understand why, then you don’t really understand how science works and the evidence supporting evolution.

My goal is to provide information and explanation to those who seek it. The greatest reason for rejecting evolution is ignorance. By spreading the facts and dispelling the lies we can all make society a little better.

To deny evolution is to deny a direct observation. It’s like denying the sky is blue while refusing to look up.

Truth is not a democracy.

Don’t teach ideas just because they are different; teach ideas because they are supported by evidence.

Think about it.
